Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about ATS and this free checker.
What is an ATS and why does my resume need to pass it?
An Applicant Tracking System (ATS) is software used by over 98% of Fortune 500 companies and most mid-size businesses to filter, rank, and organise job applications. If your resume doesn't pass ATS parsing, a human recruiter may never see it — even if you're perfectly qualified. Optimising your CV for ATS is the first step to landing interviews.
Is this ATS checker completely free?
Yes — 100% free with no sign-up, no account, and no credit card required. Upload your CV and get your score instantly. There are no hidden charges or premium tiers.
What file formats are supported?
You can upload PDF (.pdf), Microsoft Word (.doc, .docx), and image files (.jpg, .jpeg, .png, .webp). PDF is recommended for the most accurate text extraction. Image files are processed using OCR (Optical Character Recognition).
How is the ATS score calculated?
The score is a weighted average of five dimensions: section completeness (30%), keyword coverage (25%), content quality — action verbs and quantified achievements (25%), and formatting (20%). A score above 80 is considered ATS-ready; 60–79 needs improvement; below 60 may be filtered out.
What is keyword gap analysis?
Keyword gap analysis compares the words and phrases in your CV against a target job description (if you provide one) or an industry keyword vocabulary. It shows you which relevant terms are present and which are missing, so you can tailor your resume to each role.
Is my CV data stored or shared?
No. Your uploaded file is processed entirely in memory on the server, used only to extract the text for analysis, and is never written to disk or stored. The extracted text is not logged or shared with any third party.
How do I improve my ATS score?
The tool gives you a prioritised list of improvements. Common high-impact actions include: adding a professional summary, quantifying work achievements with numbers and percentages, creating a dedicated skills section, including your LinkedIn URL, and mirroring keywords from the job description you are applying to.
